The makers of CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club have released a new collection of NFTs called "TwelveFold," which is the first of its kind to be inscribed onto satoshis and live on the Bitcoin blockchain. The collection features 300 randomly generated pieces of generative art that explore the connection between time, mathematics, and variability. It utilizes a base 12 art system on a 12x12 grid, which is a visual representation of the cartography of data on the Bitcoin blockchain. The collection also includes highly-rendered 3D elements and hand-drawn features that pay tribute to the ordinal inscriptions that are currently done by hand.
Yuga Labs, which achieved massive success and popularity with their previous projects, entered the Bitcoin marketplace with this collection, potentially opening up new possibilities for Ordinals as a platform for top-tier NFT creation. Ordinals and inscriptions allow for content like images, videos, and HTML to be included in a Bitcoin transaction and assigned to an individual satoshi, bringing NFTs into the immutable, decentralized realm of Bitcoin.
The popularity of adding images to Bitcoin is evidenced by the fact that more than 200,000 inscriptions are now hosted by Bitcoin full nodes, with over 100,000 collectibles inscribed in the first three weeks of the introduction of Ordinals.
