Normally I find the stock market tedious, but if you're looking for a robust financial plan, understanding it is kind of important.
The nearly 25% decline over the first half of 2022 seemed like an excellent buying opportunity (and likely was), but the macro picture suggests the market is still way overvalued against a 70+ year trend. While this exponential growth (logarithmic scale) is impressive, I think the test of time has proven it to be a sustainable and natural growth rate of the market, and I'm willing to bet my financial security on it.
Do I know for certain that the market is about to take a much deeper dive? Of course not. In fact, it probably won't, because that's the type of opportunity that only comes along once in a generation. But I do know that it's due to happen at some point.
I use the midpoint of this channel as the basis for long term planning and projections. I see anything below the midpoint/approaching the bottom of the channel as a generational buying opportunity.
I was old enough in 2008 to appreciate the significance of "The Great Recession", but not old enough to have the money to capitalize on it. Next time though, I'll be ready and waiting.
Thank god for the crypto market, and its "generational" buying opportunities that come around every 4 years.
