U.S. stocks rose by 1.0% today fueled by a 1.5% increase in small cap stocks and a 3.0% increase in energy stocks. The S&P 500 Index is currently up 6.4% year-to-date, and up 15.1% over the past 12 months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is currently down 1.8% year-to-date, and up 5.7% over the past 12 months. Elsewhere, commodities fell 1.3% with gold falling 0.4%, crude oil falling 2.5% and copper rising 0.3%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries is 0.79%, while the dollar strengthened by 0.4% against a basket of other currencies. Meanwhile, investment grade corporate bonds fell by 0.3%, and high yield bonds rose by 0.3%.

Small cap stocks, as represented by the S&P SmallCap 600 Index, rose 1.5%.
Sectors Stocks in the Energy sector rose the most with a 3.0% gain. Stocks in the Health Care sector fell the most with a 0.6% decline. With a 143.1% gain, stocks in the Technology sector have advanced the most over the past 5 years With a 55.3% decline, stocks in the Energy sector have declined the most over the past 5 years
Bonds The yield on 1-year Treasuries remained unchanged at 0.12% today. The yield on 5-year Treasuries decreased by 1 basis point to 0.34% today. The yield on 10-year Treasuries decreased by 2 basis points to 0.79% today. The yield on 30-year Treasuries decreased by 2 basis points to 1.57% today.
Credit Investment grade corporate bonds tracked by the Markit iBoxx USD Liquid Investment Grade Index fell by 0.3%. High yield bonds tracked by the Markit iBoxx USD Liquid High Yield Index rose by 0.3%. Emerging market bonds tracked by the J.P. Morgan Emerging Markets Core Index rose by 0.0%.
Commodities The S&P GSCI Total Return Index, the leading measure of general commodity price movements, declined by 1.3% West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined by 2.5%. Gold declined by 0.4%. Copper rose by 0.3%. Silver declined by 0.3%.
Currencies The Deutsche Bank Long US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of other currencies, strengthened by 0.4% to $25.34 today. The Euro weakened by 0.6% to $1.17. The British pound weakened by 0.4% to $1.29. The Japanese yen strengthened by 0.3% to 104.61 per dollar.
Cryptocurrencies Bitcoin rose by 2.3% to $13470.52 today. Ethereum rose by 1.1% to $387.91. Tether rose by 0.0% to $1.0015680961944111. XRP declined by 0.1% to $0.24.
