In trading, an option is a contract that gives the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an underlying asset (like a stock, ETF, or commodity) at a predetermined price (the strike price) before a specific date (the expiration date). There are two main types: call options (the right to buy) and put options (the right to sell).
