TDK has made a significant advancement in solid-state battery technology, developing a new material for its CeraCharge batteries. These batteries have an energy density of 1,000 Wh/l, a 100-fold increase over TDK’s previous models. This innovation promises enhanced performance and safety for wearable devices like wireless earphones, hearing aids, and smartwatches by utilizing an oxide-based solid electrolyte with lithium alloy anodes. TDK’s new batteries are smaller, have higher capacitance, and align with EU regulations on rechargeable batteries, aiming to replace traditional coin cell batteries. The company is preparing for mass production, leveraging multi-layer lamination technology to increase capacity and operational range. This breakthrough is set to benefit Apple and other manufacturers by offering longer battery life and greater device safety.
