Nasdaq-100 Index. The Psychological Aspects of Round NumbersIn the complex dance of commerce and finance, price tags play a key role in influencing consumer decisions.
While it’s a fairly common psychological assumption that every penny and cent counts when it comes to getting the best deal, human psychology often deviates from this linear logic. In this educational post, we explore the irresistible appeal of round numbers, and how they often trump other considerations when making transaction decisions.
The Irresistible Attraction to Round Numbers
We do often believe that every penny counts in our transactions. However, research shows a striking deviation from this assumption. In scenarios where people choose a price, such as tipping at a restaurant or donating to beloved author or website, they disproportionately choose round numbers — like $ 5, $ 10 or $ 20 — far more than would be predicted by chance alone.
One could argue that this is due to the rejection of change, a reluctance to waste time on small change, and the unwillingness to bother with complex mathematics. However, even in cases where the exact bill is not an issue (e.g., cashless card payments), the preference remains.
For example, diners faced with a non-round bill (for example $ 34.67) are more likely to give non-round tips ($ 15.33), but only so that the total is a neat round number ($ 50).
Why do we prefer round prices? And what is the psychology behind it?
1) Cognitive simplicity: The human mind is programmed to simplify and seek simplicity. Numbers like 10, 50, or 100 inherently feel “cleaner” and less chaotic than 17, 62, or 84. This desire for neatness gives us a sense of accomplishment.
2) Perception of quality: The marketing world has long capitalized on this preference for round numbers. Brands strategically associate round prices with premium quality. On the other hand, odd prices like “29.99” or “34.99,” while ubiquitous, subconsciously signal here's a discount or a bargain.
3) This preference is not limited to prices. People exhibit this tendency to round in other aspects of life as well. Our repeated exposure to round numbers is common in a variety of contexts, both in everyday life and during financial transactions, which contributes to an unconscious bias toward them. This cognitive ease with round numbers further perpetuates the preference.
The stock market’s behavior and its fluctuations around these significant, round numbers is not a coincidence in general; there is a psychological explanation.
Market Psychology of Round Numbers
When the market reaches round numbers such as 500 or 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000, it attracts the attention of both active traders and casual investors who may not even be actively following the market.
As in everyday life, people often use round numbers as thresholds for making investment decisions. For example, some may decide to enter the market if a major index such as the Nasdaq-100 has exceeded 10,000, or they may decide to sell some of their stocks if the Nasdaq-100 has reached 20,000.
These round numbers act as magnets for sellers as they mark important milestones given the relatively high rarity of a round number. If the market has the potential to move higher, it first needs to absorb the selling pressure around the round numbers and establish equilibrium before continuing its move higher.
If we analyze the market behavior over the last decades, we will see clear patterns at round numbers. Let us take a closer look at a few examples.
1) Indian Stock Index, Sensex BSE:SENSEX
Sensex, one of the major market indices in India, has its share of round number syndrome. For example, when Sensex reached 10,000 points in Q1 2006, it experienced significant market activity, with the index fluctuating by as much as 30 percent in Q2.
The same phenomenon occurred at multiples of 10,000.
Thus, at 20,000 points, which the Indian market reached at the end of 2007, the index collapsed by more than 60 percent over the next 4 quarters of 2008.
Later the 20,000 mark has been reached again in the second half of 2010, and the index again suffered a decline of more than 20 percent during 2011.
Later Indian stock market index reached the 30,000 mark in the first quarter of 2015, and its led to a price decline of more than 20 percent in the next 4 quarters, while 40,000 mark in the fourth quarter of 2019 - led to the market decline by 30 percent on the wave of COVID-19 sales.
2) Gold market OANDA:XAUUSD
As in the previous example, round numbers often become key points of congestion for Gold market, when the market tries to break even higher, but the forces of buyers and sellers may be unequal.
For example, spot Gold reached the $ 1,000 mark for the first time in the Q1 2008, which, following the logic discussed above, led to sales and 30 percent decrease.
Gold spot buyers have tried a lot to reach $ 2,000 mark in 2011, but it brought the market down by 45 percent over the next 5 years. There were also a lot of unsuccessful attempts to jump above $ 2,000 in 2020-2022.
Finally Gold spot surged above $ 2,000 only in Q4 2023, its led to further price increase, up to 2500 US dollars per ounce.
3) US stock index, Nasdaq-100 index NASDAQ:NDX
The Nasdaq-100 index approached the 10,000 point mark for the first time in Q1 2020, which could have contributed to the sell-off. In fact, this is what happened, as the market then plunged by more than 30 percent in March 2020, and only thanks to monetary support measures and the reduction of US interest rates to almost zero, the index was able to break the 10,000 barrier by the end of Q2 2020.
Reaching the 20,000 mark by the market index in Q2 2024, as we see, again leads to increased turbulence in US tech stocks and talk of imminent monetary easing by the Fed.
Final Thoughts
1) It is important to note that round number syndrome and increased seismic activity near rounds number is a short-term phenomenon. Once the selling pressure is absorbed, the market resumes its movement based on other factors and develops independently of these already passed milestones.
2) Understanding the market behavior at round numbers can provide valuable information to investors. These round numbers act as psychological triggers for investors, driving their decision-making processes.
3) Understanding this phenomenon allows investors to make more informed choices and understand the short-term fluctuations that occur during these stages.

Trade Like A Sniper - Episode 14 - US10Y - (3rd June 2024)This video is part of a video series where I backtest a specific asset using the TradingView Replay function, and perform a top-down analysis using ICT's Concepts in order to frame ONE high-probability setup. I choose a random point of time to replay, and begin to work my way down the timeframes. Trading like a sniper is not about entries with no drawdown. It is about careful planning, discipline, and taking your shot at the right time in the best of conditions.
A couple of things to note:
- I cannot see news events.
- I cannot change timeframes without affecting my bias due to higher-timeframe candles revealing its entire range.
- I cannot go to a very low timeframe due to the limit in amount of replayed candlesticks
In this session I will be analyzing US10Y, starting from the 3-Month chart.

Why Central Banks Buying Gold & Institutions Hedging the Yields? While many of us celebrate the stock markets reaching new highs, central banks worldwide are actively purchasing gold, and institutions are hedging into treasuries and yields.
Interest rates are determined by the central banks whereas Yields are determined by the investors.
If you choose to lend or borrow money over a longer period, such as 10 or 30 years, you would typically expect to earn or pay more interest for this extended duration loan contract. However, currently, we are witnessing an inversion of this relationship, known as the inverted yield curve, where borrowers are required to pay higher interest on their short-term loans, such as the 2-year yield we're observing, compared to their longer-term borrowing.

✨❄️🌟 The Tutorial How-To Find a Magic on TradingViewFinancial markets just finished its memorial 2023.
Whatever the numbers at the “Closing bell”, on your monitors and in your portfolios, there is no doubt that 2023 year’s Santa Rally will go down in history as one of the most outstanding in many years.
In November and December, 2023 the U.S. stock market was rallying for the 9th consecutive week in a row.
This was the longest ever upside streak in SP:SPX over the past 20 years, since the fourth quarter of 2003.
Well.. just try to answer what happened with the market the past one time.

Can You Trade The Cycle?Hi folks,
We're going to talk about trade cycles today. I hope you love learning! The strongest power is knowledge! We'll be stronger together!
In economics, a trade cycle is a pattern of economic activity that repeats itself over time. It is often characterized by periods of expansion, followed by periods of contraction. The trade cycle can be caused by a variety of factors, including changes in government policy, technological innovation, and consumer demand.
The trade cycle is also known as the business cycle or economic cycle. It is a recurring but not periodic fluctuation found in a nation's aggregate economic activity- a cycle that consists of expansions occurring at about the same time in many economic activities, followed by similarly general contractions (recessions).
There are a number of different types of trade cycles, each with its own characteristics. Some of the most common types of trade cycles include:
Kitchin cycle : The Kitchin cycle is a 4- to 5-year cycle of economic activity. It is named after Joseph Kitchin, an English economist who first described it in the 1920s. The Kitchin cycle is typically characterized by a period of rising prices, followed by a period of falling prices, followed by a period of rising prices again.
Juglar cycle : The Juglar cycle is a 10- to 15-year cycle of economic activity. It is named after Clement Juglar, a French economist who first described it in the 19th century. The Juglar cycle is typically characterized by a period of expansion, a period of contraction, a period of recovery, and another period of expansion.
Kondratiev cycle : The Kondratieff cycle is a 50- to 60-year cycle of economic activity. It is named after Nikolai Kondratieff, a Russian economist who first described it in the 1920s. The Kondratieff cycle is typically characterized by four phases: prosperity, recession, depression, and recovery.
Now, we know what cycles are in the shape of context. There is a million dollars question.
Can we trade the cycles?
As a trader or an investor, we definitely can trade the cycles. However, we need to learn what the cycle is, and how can it start or end.
There are a number of ways that a trader can trade the cycle. Some popular methods include:
1- Using fundamental analysis . Fundamental analysis can be used to assess the underlying value of a security. This information can be used to identify potential undervalued or overvalued securities.
2- Using cycle analysis. Cycle analysis is a more specialized form of technical analysis that focuses on identifying cycles in market prices. This information can be used to identify potential entry and exit points for trades, as well as to forecast future price movements.
3- Using technical analysis. Technical analysis can be used to identify key support and resistance levels, as well as trendlines and patterns. This information can be used to identify potential entry and exit points for trades.
It is important to note that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to trading the cycle. The best approach will vary depending on the individual trader's risk tolerance, trading style, and investment goals .
Final Tips:
📍 Use a stop-loss order . A stop-loss order is a type of order that automatically closes a trade if the price of a security reaches a certain level. This can help to protect your profits and limit your losses.
📍 Use a trailing stop-loss order . A trailing stop-loss order is a type of order that automatically moves with the price of a security. This can help to lock in profits and protect your gains.
📍 Be patient . Trading the cycle can be a patient game. It is important to be patient and wait for the right opportunities to trade.
📍 Don't overtrade . It is important to avoid overtrading. Overtrading can lead to losses and can also increase your risk.
Bonus Chart : US10Y
A task for you! Look at the bonus chart and leave your thoughts considering the correlation between US10Y and SP500 or ONS.
Will the U.S. default on their debt?eather the US default on their debt or raise their debt ceiling; it’s a bad thing either way for the US Dollar & economy;
US DEFAULTS🩸:
⭕️They fall into a deep recession
⭕️Roughly 7.8 million jobs will be lost
⭕️Unemployment rate doubles to 8%
⭕️Crime rate/poverty increases
⭕️Stocks & Bonds will be sold off/401(K) effected. Financial markets crash
⭕️Social security payments delayed
US RAISES DEBT CEILING💸:
⭕️More money printed out of thin air
⭕️Inflation sores even higher
⭕️Interest Rates keeping getting hiked higher
⭕️More mortgage defaults, so more homes get seized
⭕️Banks hand out less personal/business loans, along with mortgages
⭕️USD strengthens, which is a bad thing as more countries will refuse to do business with them
⭕️More bank failures
As a result, we will see an outflow of institutional investments away from equities, with an inflow of investments into commodities like Gold & Silver.
Does the yield curve inversion signal recession? The famous negative curve.
This market concept is used when the US02Y or US03Y operate at higher levels than the US10Y, this behavior usually anticipates recessions, but why does this happen?
The inversion of the yield curve distorts the expected functionality of the financial system.
Under "normal" conditions, raising funds in the short term for investment in longer terms is used to provide positive arbitrage between interest rates on liabilities (paid) and assets (received), a strategy subject to the limits of the rollover capacity of the liabilities and raising new funds.
The availability of assets with higher premiums and liquidity, US02Y and US03Y, makes it less attractive to offer funds for longer terms < US10Y, and more expensive to raise funds for those who demand funds for shorter terms.
So the interest curve is considered a kind of thermometer of what lies ahead in an economy, and it is the graphic representation of how much investors are charging to lend money in different maturities, and once it is inverted, it means that it is more expensive to borrow in the short term than in the long term – an unusual thing, because more distant payment dates mean greater risks for the borrower.
In the US economy, a widely documented fact is that yield curve inversion (i.e., when there is a negative differential between long-term versus short-term bond yields) is a good leading indicator of periods of economic contraction. four to six quarters ahead.
According to data available on the Federal Reserve website, yield curve inversion has preceded every US recession since 1950, with the exception of a false signal in 1967.
There is also evidence that indicators of this nature are important predictors of periods of economic contraction in other countries.
But are there any silver linings to this unusual reversal scenario? Yes, in these moments of greater uncertainty we have an interesting opportunity to buy good companies at low prices.
This is because after the monetary tightening cycle, the economy usually weakens, during this period risk assets suffer, considering that their future projections will suffer due to the scenario, so many of the market participants seek security in bonds, others seek to anticipate the recovery considering that as soon as this CORRECTIVE cycle ends, a new UPWARD CYCLE tends to maintain perennial companies and give birth to many new companies that arise in the face of challenging scenarios.
DESCENDING CHANNEL - Range Trading StrategyHello my Fellow TraderZ,
Today this is not any Trade idea but a TUTORIAL on how to Trade the RANGE or the CHANNEL.
This is simple, safe, profitable and straight forward Price Action strategy.
Here we are taking the chart of US Govt. Bond 10Y-yield. This is the perfect setup of DECENDING CHANNEL on MONTHLY chart. No time bound you can trade at any TIMEFRAMES, but Higher Time Frames are more reliable.
You see, to draw any Trendline we need minimum 2/3 touch points.
Whenever the price touches the Trendline, never open any Trade in RUSH, wait, see the kind of candles forming at Touch Points (at LOWER TL = BULLISH PA, at UPPER TL = BEARISH PA). PA = Price Action. This should be coupled with the VOLUME.
Notice the S/R areas, where price gives multiple hits before bounce or rejection. This will give you extra boost as these horizontal S/R are more reliable than Dynamic S/R. Also these areas could be your Pivots to make ENTRY(incase price doesn't hit the channel Trendlines) or TP Targets.
Look at the Percentage(%) wise gains simply following the channel(BUY THE LOW, SELL THE HIGH). Well I've just mentioned the BUYS, you can add the short positions also.
Until the price is in channel you can take Multiple Trades both LONGing and SHORTing the market, unless the channel Breaks. This is the beauty of Range Trading. Similarly you can trade ASCENDING CHANNEL/WEDGES as well.
NOTE : PRICE ACTION is majorly important in the Game of Trading.

GOLD'S NEXT MOVE?Little educational post for you guys! If my analysis is correct & the current uptrend is Wave 5, an effective way to estimate how far this last bullish cycle will go is to go back & look at Wave 1, when Gold first started its uptrend in 2006. Wave 1 & Wave 5 tend to be very similar in how many PIPS they move, with a few hundreds PIPS difference which is very accurate for higher TF analysis.
I have done this on my chart & it shows me where Wave 5 will possibly end before correcting itself over the next few years! Do this for yourself & you'll find the results you're looking for. I have covered out the price it could go to as it'll only be exclusive on the Market Breakdown Report for Investors. Markets are looking juicy for the foreseeable future🦾
How Central Banks Are Stealing Your MoneySince the merger between the Fed and the Treasury (kidding, kind of), I've had so many conversations with individuals outside of the financial industry who struggle to fully grasp how central banks are stealing their money. Today, I'm going to share a short and simple post which I hope will help explain the direct effect of "money printing," on the working class. Let's jump right into it.
When interest rates remain low for an extended period of time (historically), risk assets become more prone to rampant speculation (lucky for those holding assets outside of cash), leading to massive distortions in the underlying fundamentals of those assets, and historical valuation deviations from the mean (which is mathematically unsustainable). The rapidily rising prices of both assets, and goods & services, which is not being stimulated by an actual increase in the velocity of money, but rather from central banks artificially flooding the monetary system with liquidity (while interest rates are near zero), contributes to a lower standard of living for those holding cash as their primary asset.
For example:
If you have $100 in your bank account, and perhaps this is your only asset, then the central bank increases the money supply by 25%, what they've just done is increase the denominator which underpins the value of that $100.
Here's a simple logical demonstration:
100/100 = 1 (baseline purchasing power.)
100/125 = 0.80 (a 25% increase in the money supply in this example, as a result of central bank money printing, results in a 20% loss in purchasing power.)
In essence, in this hypothetical situation, you've just lost 20% of your purchasing power. With CPI in the US running at 5.4% YoY vs the Fed's 2% "target," we're currently looking at an inflation rate almost triple the Fed's goal. The US10Y yield trades at 1.25% while CPI is 5.4%, and the Fed continues to print $1.44 Trillion on an annualized basis, with no end in sight. Welcome to the wonderfully horrific world of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). Anyone looking for a hedge?
10-year forward interest rates.10-year forward interest rates. This is a very important figure. The analysis is technical in nature, but I would like to draw fundamental conclusions from it. It can be seen from the chart that futures interest rate pricing on 10-year U.S. government bonds is currently rising. The main reasons for this are the rise in oil prices, which may trigger a temporary rise in inflation. But it can also be seen from the figure that we are approaching the end of a transient ascending cycle. This assumes that 10-year dollar interest rates will peak at 1.43%. Then, according to the law of the wave sequence, the pricing of 10-year interest rates (thick red line) can once again take a strong declining path. This projects a strong dollar weakening. This weakening of the dollar could be the driving force behind the rise of the U.S. stock market, cryptocurrency market and commodity market. In the event that market futures interest rate pricing goes along the thick red line (I see a good chance of that now), stock market and commodity prices will now be flying to unimaginable heights. Crypto stock markets are also facing significant increases.
The 10-Year US Treasury Yield Makes HistoryThe 10-Year US Treasury Yield made new all-time lows this week. History was made as it went below 1%!

Inflation Proxy StablizingDoubleLine's Jeff Gundlach often refers to the copper/gold ratio as a proxy for U.S. yields. Although this is comprised of two commodities that tend to do well in rising inflation, it can be seen as a growth proxy as well, which in turn filters into where yields are moving.
Market participants often allocate to copper when growth is trending higher and, conversely, gold when growth is muted. We currently have a record net-short positioning on copper which could suggest yields may move higher.
Interest Rate Spikes Precede CorrectionsNotice the downward trend in the US10Y since the 80's, while government, corporate and consumer debt has exploded to all time highs. The achilles heel of massive debt levels are high interest rates, which end up causing slowed growth and economic contraction. With ever higher levels of debt, the level of interest required to put the economy in pain falls over time - thus why we see crashes and corrections even as the US10Y spikes to levels far below the historical average (~6.18%).
Last year we popped above the "danger zone" trend line and we saw what happened. Watch out for interest rate spikes, it can save your ass.
