AUDUSD: RSI moves into oversold levelsThe AUDUSD has experienced a consistent decline of over 3% in the past month. This is primarily due to the growing strength of the U.S. dollar as the next Fed decision approaches (January 29), where interest rates are expected to remain stable at 4.5%.
Bearish Channel: Since October 4, 2024, a solid bearish channel has been maintained, with the price reaching a low of 0.61308. However, to further confirm bearish momentum, it is almost essential to break through the next key support level at 0.60151.
RSI: Currently, the RSI line is oscillating below the 30 level , indicating significant oversold conditions, where bearish momentum has taken over the market with greater intensity. Additionally, higher lows on the RSI and lower lows on the price have created a bullish divergence.
Both events in the indicator may signal the emergence of potential short-term bullish corrections as short positions ease near support zones.
Key Levels:
0.62369: A nearby resistance level that has acted as a point of neutrality in recent oscillations and coincides with the upper boundary of the current bearish channel. Breaks above this level could bring back buying momentum and challenge the current bearish formation on the chart. This level is crucial to monitor for potential short-term bullish corrections.
0.60151: A key support level and the closest barrier for bearish positions. Breaks below this level could mark a new price low and further consolidate the strength of the current bearish channel.
By Julian Pineda, CFA - Market Analyst
AUD/USD at a Key Support Level on the Weekly ChartThe AUD/USD pair has experienced a significant decline of nearly 11% without any substantial pullbacks since September 2024. It has now reached a crucial support level on the weekly chart at 0.6200.
This recent downward movement has been influenced, in part, by Donald Trump's return to the US presidency. His administration has traditionally prioritised a “putting America first” stance, pledging to reinvigorate the economy and support American industry.
Now, the pressing question is: Will the AUD/USD break through this support and continue its fall, or will it experience a bullish pullback in the coming days?
The AUD/USD is currently situated in a decisive region. A break below the support could pave the way for further declines, while a successful breach of the downtrend line could initiate a more significant upward movement.
Possible Bullish Scenario
The AUD/USD could enter a bullish trend if the price breaks above the high of the December 31 candle, approximately 0.6240.
Possible Target : The target could be set in the vicinity of the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level, around 0.6470 (approximately 220 pips above the entry point).
Stop Loss : A suitable stop loss may be placed just below the support level on the weekly chart, at about 0.6150 (approximately 90 pips from the entry).
Alternative Scenario: Breakdown of Support
Conversely, if the price breaks below the support level on the weekly chart, it could signal a continuation of the downtrend, potentially driving the AUD/USD down to the 0.6000 mark within a few days.
Key Considerations
Investors should remain vigilant regarding upcoming macroeconomic data releases from both the US and Australia, as well as any initial decisions made by President Donald Trump following his return to office. These factors could significantly influence the direction of the AUD/USD pair in the near term.

Australian Dollar Looks Like a Good Investment Well, now that Australian unemployment surprisingly dropped it gave the central bank’s hold-steady stance on rates some creedence. With Aussie sitting in the lower portion of ranges (E.G. here with AUDCHF)I like buying and holding the asset for longer time horizons. Small sizes, and take profits at levels, like the 200 MA, and jumping back in on pullbacks.
AUD/USD Reaches New Low: Technicals Highlight Bearish TrendThe AUD/USD pair has sunk below 0.65000, hitting a low of 0.64529, reflecting a persistent bearish trend for the Australian dollar. This decline aligns with the strong US dollar index at 106.4 amidst robust post-election performance. The RBA's steady interest rate at 4.35% and lackluster employment growth in Australia indicate ongoing economic pressures that may limit the Aussie’s recovery. Meanwhile, anticipated rate cuts by the Fed could introduce USD vulnerabilities, adding complexity to the pair's future trajectory. Traders should closely monitor economic indicators and central bank policies in both regions for potential market shifts.
AU Index Rallies from Demand Area as Bullish Sentiment GrowsThe AU Index experienced a significant development yesterday as it reached a key demand area, showing a strong rejection today that indicates potential bullish momentum. This demand zone, identified through technical analysis, has historically served as a pivotal point for price action, suggesting an opportunity for a price turnaround. With the opening candle reflecting a robust rejection of lower levels, traders are increasingly optimistic about the possibility of a bullish trend emerging in the coming months.
From a technical standpoint, this demand area presents a solid foundation for potential upward movement. The absence of follow-through selling and the strength of the rejection signal that buyers are stepping in to support the price. When coupled with historical seasonality patterns, which indicate a likelihood of gains during this period, there is a compelling case for a bullish outlook on the AU Index. Historical trends suggest that this time frame has often led to price rallies, providing further confirmation for those considering long positions.
On the fundamental side, the insights from the Commitment of Traders (COT) report paint an interesting picture. While retail traders are predominantly bearish, indicating a cautious sentiment among the broader market participants, the smart money narrative tells a different story. Institutional investors appear to be either bullish or in the early stages of building long positions, which can be a telling signal for future price action. This divergence between retail bearishness and institutional buying often creates an environment ripe for a market reversal, particularly as the smart money tends to lead rather than follow market trends.
Given these dynamics, traders are now on the lookout for a long setup on the AU Index. Emphasizing risk management and entry strategies will be essential in this endeavor. With the price showing resilience at the demand area and fundamental signals suggesting a shift towards bullishness, there is a growing confidence that the AU Index may be poised for a sustained rally.
In conclusion, the confluence of technical indicators, seasonal patterns, and the contrasting sentiments present in the COT report presents an enticing opportunity in the AU Index. As traders position themselves for potential gains, the next few sessions will be crucial in determining whether this demand area will indeed act as a launchpad for a bullish trend in the months ahead. Investors will be closely monitoring price movements, looking for confirmation to validate their long strategies in what could be an exciting period for this index.

AU:Will Positive Aussie Labor Data Hold as US Retail Sales Loom? The Australian Dollar (AUD) found support on Thursday following the release of positive labor market data. Australia's Employment Change rose by 64.1K in September, bringing total employment to a record-high 14.52 million. This strong labor data has provided a temporary boost to the AUD, despite broader market uncertainties. However, traders remain cautious ahead of the anticipated US Retail Sales data, which is expected to show a 0.3% increase for September, up from 0.1% in the previous month.
Technical Analysis and Market Positioning
From a technical perspective, the Commitment of Traders (COT) report shows a clear divergence in market sentiment. Retail traders appear to be strongly bullish on the AUD/USD, while smart money (institutional investors) has taken a bearish stance. This discrepancy often signals the potential for market reversals, as institutional players are generally more adept at positioning ahead of key market moves.
Additionally, when looking at seasonality trends from the Forecaster and considering key Supply and Demand areas, there’s a possibility that the AUD/USD could experience a new drop. However, this is likely to occur after a brief retracement, as the market digests both the Australian labor data and the upcoming US economic figures.
Outlook and Strategy
For now, we are adopting a wait-and-see approach. Given the mixed signals from the COT report and the seasonal factors at play, we prefer to remain on the sidelines until the situation becomes clearer. The upcoming US Retail Sales data, along with other market-moving news, will likely provide further direction for the AUD/USD in the days ahead. Once the market reacts to these key events, we will reassess and consider potential trade setups accordingly.
Patience is key, as the next few days could bring more clarity after the news impacts play out.

Yet support was found around a historical weekly VPOC (volume point of control), so perhaps a minor bounce could be due. Bears could seek to fade into any such bounce around resistance level such as the swing lows around 67c, in anticipation of a move down to the 2000-day SMA near the September low.
