Trading gold on the 15M part two✌️Evening again traders. This part two of my trade ideas on how I've trade the gold drop on the 15M chart in the last 24 hours. Part one can be found here. The strategy shared in part one was a trend based strategy with solid returns based on following the trend with a stop loss. The strategy only had a 24% win rate but still had a proven record based on 100 trade sample. As humans we are not easy with the thought of losing money and it can impact on your trading psychology massively. If a 24% win rate isn't what you are comfortable with here we have a relative strength index reversal strategy which is still in early stages of development. RSI settings can be set individually to each instrument then the back test data sample of trades shows us how profitable a strategy has been. This back test data provides us with the necessary information to plan for probability in our method of trading. The strategy applied on gold 15M this time is a reversal strategy based on RSI working within in a set period of hours. As with every idea the trade history can be found at the foot of the idea. The strategy has a much higher win rate at 64% over more trades, but also profit is less. However we still have a proven edge. Note the strategy has already alerted to a potential long trade already today before presenting this next long opportunity. As traders we have to understand that no strategy will win all the time. Gold could well continue downward but this reversal strategy is saying its time to go long. The big choice we have to make as traders is picking a plan and style that suits us as individuals but also what we emotionally feel comfy with. Two contrasting styles shown on the two ideas tonight. I said this was one for the swing traders 👌🎯This is a quick update for a trade idea I shared two weeks back. I did say it was going to be one for the swing traders and the trade has hit profit target 17 days later. The pair in question is a NZDUSD working the H4 time frame. Strategy is a 1:5 RR ratio. This kind of trade epitomises the importance of sticking to the plan. Good profit was on the table a numerous points. Slight retraces occurred but it's crucial to stick to your strategy. A back test of 34 trade samples over three years tells me this strategy is profitable. I simply let probability play out combined with patience. Are you a champion hopper? 😬🙈Morning traders. I started yesterday morning by posting an idea with the phrase below. 'Lets start the morning with everyone's favourite! Gold' Well I'm kinda doing the same again this morning but this time it so we can all have some more food for thought at the breakfast table instead! Now here me out, I have drawn the two graphs in this mornings idea on the same gold H1 strategy chart I shared yesterdays idea from. The comment section was a good mix of feedback, some miffed at the stop out possibly and others very realistic in the reality that stop losses occur in trading. For this strategy yesterdays stop loss means we now have 5 losses in a row. But I wont be hopping off to another method or style either. 90% of traders get spooked at the first sign of a losing run and jump to the next strategy. Why will I stick with this strategy for gold on H1? Because of probability being factored in from the back tested data available. Hand on heart how many people out there actually back test a strategy? You can't plan for probability in your risk management if you have no data for your strategy. Transparency when sharing ideas has always been key for me and strategy test data is always included in my ideas just as the H1 gold data is at the bottom of this idea. This leads me back on to the graph drawings in this idea. The one on the left is the last two weeks of data for this strategy the one on the right is the last two years! Growing capital takes time. Losing runs are part of trading the growing capital part comes from trading a strategy with a proven edge. If you have a proven system why hop on to another one? I'll end this idea with a great quote from Steve Burns. '10% of successful trading is creating a system with an edge. Zigzag Circles Strategy Test 1st April → 6th June@LonesomeTheBlue has recently published an interesting script LTB Zigzag Circles . I got curious about its performance, so I tinkered out a strategy and tested it out on GBPUSD. I will use ZigZag Circles with a period of 14 on a 30m timeframe. Furthermore, I will utilize round levels to place my entries, exits, and stops. When there is a bullish signal: ► a limit entry is placed at the nearest-below x000, x200, x500, or x800 level. ► a stop-loss is placed halfway through to another such level below. ► a take-profit will be at the nearest x000, x200, x500, or x800 level to the upside. When there is a bearish signal: ► a limit entry is placed at the nearest-above x000, x200, x500, or x800 level. ► a stop-loss is placed halfway through to another such level above. ► a take-profit will be at the nearest x00, x200, x500, or x800 level to the downside (check the first picture for clarification, round levels are shown in gray) #1 A first entry signal at 17:00 Look at the limit order. A limit is right before 1.38200, the exit before 1.38500, the stop-loss between 1.38000 and 1.38200. #1 A first order is closed in profit in roughly 12 hours #2 A second position opened and closed according to rules #Not All Entries Trigger Obviously, I didn't leave the entry orders hanging out there forever. #3 A first loser This is how a lost trade looked like. #5, #6 A little problematic area This is a problem you might encounter with LTB Zigzag Circles. Signals point in both directions... I wouldn't take the long one as the signal is far from my level, but during the backtest, I follow the rules. Hence a win and a loss. #8, #9, #10, #11 a series of losses in a consolidation area When the price keeps on contracting, there might be several false signals in a row. Even though you may still see some respect for the x500 zone, the bounces are small and not enough to reach the profits. In real trading, the entries could be identified as unconvincing and avoided. #14, #15 Two winners in a row Although the stop-loss was dangerously close to where the price once was for the first one, this is how the winners in a row might look like. #22 Another problematic situation Lastly, I wanted to put attention to this imaginary trade. The very point of using limit orders in this test is to make sure I have enough time to get the signal and evaluate its quality. I do believe, there wouldn't be enough time to open a position from a level designated by rules. So I put it on the nearest one below. I know I wouldn't want to take that trade after I was notified at the candle's close. If you would, count it as a loss. Conclusions 37 trades were open since the beginning of April, out of which 44% were profitable with an accumulated profit of 1141 ticks . When backtesting, I like to subtract 3 pips from every trade to give it a better feel of the real world. You make mistakes and you also pay spreads and fees. If I subtract 3 pips from every single trade, the strategy will still be profitable, but barely. It's 91 ticks only. Of course, the real spread is smaller than that, so this is a good result also. Lastly, I saw the price to continue in the direction of the trade far exceeding its original take profit. With advanced trade management (which can not be backtested easily), profits would be higher. Remember, that 37 trades is a narrow sample size. It is enough to give you an idea of what parts of the strategy to improve. But for accurate statistics, you should test your strategy 180+ times.
