DIVERGENCE CHEATSHEETHello dear traders and investors community!
The Divergence Cheat Sheet
Divergence occurs when the price of an asset and an indicator, such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI), move in opposite directions. This pattern provides valuable insights into potential price reversals or changes in trends.
Detecting Divergence
Detecting divergence is crucial for identifying lucrative trading opportunities. By using divergence indicators like the RSI, MACD, or Stochastic Oscillator, we can gain significant insights into market trends and potential price reversals.
To pinpoint divergence effectively, follow these steps:
Choose an indicator capable of detecting divergence, such as the RSI, MACD, or Stochastic Oscillator.
Look for discrepancies between the indicator and the price action. Regular divergence occurs when the price and the indicator move in opposite directions, while hidden divergence occurs when they move in the same direction but at different rates.
Monitor the direction of the trend. Divergence can indicate a trend reversal, so keeping track of the current market trend is crucial.
Confirm the divergence signal with other technical analysis tools. Divergence is just one piece of the puzzle, so it's essential to use other indicators to validate your trading decisions.
Examples of Divergence in Trading Charts
Let's examine a few examples of divergence on Bitcoin charts:
Strong Bullish Divergence:
When lows of the price decreases while the RSI increases, a regular bullish divergence occurs. This signals a potential trend reversal and presents an opportunity for a bullish trade.
Strong Bearish Divergence:
When highs the price of an asset is rising while the RSI is falling, it indicates a regular bearish divergence. This suggests a potential trend reversal and presents an opportunity for a bearish trade.
Medium Bullish Divergence:
When the lows of an asset remain equal while the RSI is rising, it indicates a medium bullish divergence. This suggests a potential increase in price, although it may not be a strong upward movement.
Medium Bearish Divergence:
When the highs of an asset remain unchanged while the RSI is decreasing, it indicates a medium bearish divergence. This suggests a potential decline in price, although the downward movement may not be significant.
Weak Bullish Divergence:
When the lows of an asset is decreasing while the RSI lows is equal, it indicates a weak bullish divergence. This suggests a potential increase in price, although it may not be a strong upward movement.
Weak Bearish Divergence:
When the highs of an asset are rising while the RSI remains unchanged, it indicates a moderate bearish divergence. This suggests a potential decline in price, although the downward movement may not be significant.
Hidden Bullish Divergence:
Hidden bullish divergence occurs when the price creates higher lows while the RSI is creating lower lows. This reinforces an existing uptrend and suggests its strength.
Hidden Bearish Divergence:
Hidden bearish divergence is observed when the price forms lower highs while the RSI forms higher highs. This indicates a potential weakening of the current uptrend and might signal a trend reversal or a pullback.
By recognizing these divergence patterns on trading charts, we can gain insights into potential market reversals, entry and exit points, and adjust trading strategies accordingly.
To effectively incorporate divergence into your trading, consider the following steps:
Identify the appropriate indicators: Choose reliable indicators such as RSI, MACD, or Stochastic Oscillator that can detect divergence patterns effectively.
Learn to spot divergence: Familiarize yourself with the different types of divergence patterns and practice identifying them on price charts. This will help you develop a trained eye for spotting potential trading opportunities.
Confirm with additional analysis: While divergence can provide valuable signals, it's essential to use other technical analysis tools to confirm your trading decisions. Look for supporting indicators, chart patterns, or trendline breaks that align with the divergence signal.
Set clear entry and exit criteria: Define your entry and exit points based on the divergence signal and your risk tolerance. Consider using stop-loss orders and take-profit levels to manage your trades effectively.
Practice risk management: Implement proper risk management techniques, such as position sizing, to protect your capital. Divergence alone should not be the sole basis for your trading decisions but rather an additional tool in your arsenal.
Backtest and refine your strategy: Test your divergence-based trading strategy on historical price data to assess its effectiveness. Make adjustments as needed and continuously monitor and evaluate your results to improve your trading approach.
Remember, divergence analysis is not foolproof and should be used in conjunction with other technical analysis methods and market factors.
Divergence analysis is a powerful tool that can provide us with an edge in the cryptocurrency market. By understanding and effectively utilizing divergence patterns, we can identify potential trend reversals, improve entry and exit timing, and enhance overall trading strategy. Incorporate divergence analysis into your trading approach and combine it with other technical indicators and risk management techniques for a well-rounded and informed trading strategy.
XAGUSDIs XAGUSD exhausting at highs?
As the price is been on high bull run but now it seems like price is lacking bullish momentum at resistance level and bearish divergence suggesting the sell pressure is about to start.
If the bears took control , the 1st target could be 24 followed by 23.
What you guys think of it ?
XAGUSD 1d Bullish DivergenceThere are some technical signs that OANDA:XAGUSD might do a swing up
There is a bullish divergence of price vs momentum
MACD is about to cross the signal line
The downward trendline has already been crossed to the upside
So it might be a good idea to go long with a profit target at the monthly pivot (24.176)
PYPL Bullish Trend Reversal aheadNASDAQ:PYPL 4H candles shows lower lows, while Momentum making higher lows - this is a sign for a possible trend reversal.
This idea is supported by looking at the RSI - it was oversold and now starts rising again.
Profit target is the monthly pivot point at around 72.76
Will Bitcoin make a bullish correction soon?Looking at the daily candles, BITSTAMP:BTCUSD was making lower lows, while Momentum was making higher lows - this could indicate a trend reversal.
RSI is currently highly oversold.
So, BITSTAMP:BTCUSD might make a correction up and back to the trendline at around 23875 USD
NASDAQ Moving Lower (1W)NASDAQ Weekly
Price Chart
After forming a double bottom in late 2022 the NASDAQ bounced and has melted up from its lows approximately 48% confirming that it was more than just a bear market rally. Most recently the NASDAQ has run into resistance (Light Red Box) and has descended roughly 3% past a minor trend line on the daily chart (not shown). Shorter term EMA's are beginning to even out (12-day / 26-day) indicting the beginning of a change in the direction of price action which will most likely move lower towards the target supports (Light Green Boxes). If the bottom support (Red Solid) is broken (pretty big "if" at the moment) then the possibility of breaking the long-term trend line (Yellow Solid) will come into play, however at this point it is premature to assume this comes to fruition.
Relative Strength Indicator
The major trend line (Yellow Solid) highlights the divergence from price action beginning in May 2022 and confirming the double bottom ending in December 2022. Most recently the RSI has remained elevated above the 70 line indicating a strong trend, however, the RSI has fallen back below the 70 signaling weakness. The RSI most likely moves down toward the major trend line and major support (Red Solid) from this point. Considering a cradle is in play with the resistance and trend line crossing, it will more than likely bounce with price action allowing the price to attempt one more move higher but will ultimately fail along with RSI failing to make a higher high and confirming price action. If the support and trend are broken it is most likely game over.
On Balance Volume
OBV bounced along with price and RSI in December 2022 and continued higher while making two consecutive bull flags confirming the movement. The OBV has failed to move higher after encountering resistance (Aquamarine Dotted) while retesting the major trend line (Yellow Solid) and seemingly has begun to move lower (emphasis on begun to). It is also notable to mention that a minor trend line (Yellow Dotted) has created a cradle that the OBV has so far failed to break. If the major resistance (Red Solid) is broken then it is basically game over, but we have two areas of support (Light Green Boxes) that will need to be broken first. The major resistance has had previous breaks which led to major downturns that can be seen in December 2000, February 2005, and September 2008 (all shown above).
TDLR;
Just want the meat and potatoes huh? Don't worry our entrees always Seem Legit. Price action recently hit resistance and has begun to move lower while EMA's begin to flatten. There's a 3% move down from a minor trend line on the 1D (not shown). The RSI is showing a bearish divergence after remaining elevated over the 70 line and beginning to move lower. The OBV looks to be forming a double top, and has run into resistance from a major and a minor trend line. Don't forget that this could take months to play out since this is the weekly chart.
What Seems Legit?
Possibly a bounce here from the support formed Jan - Mar 2022 in conjunction with the 12-day or 26-day EMA, retest the recent high, fail to break it and begin to move lower. It might just push lower due to the RSI on the 1D moving below the 50 line (analysis of the 1D has been posted).
"History doesnt repeat itself but often it rhymes" -
- Tap the 50-day EMA and carry on (2019)
- Crash to the major trend line and carry on (2020)
- Break the major support on the OBV and head lower (2000, 2005, 2008)
Chart Key
Yellow Solid = Major Trend Line
Red Solid = Major Support
Aquamarine Solid = Divergences
Red Box = Major Resistance
Green Boxes = Supports / Target Areas
DKNG - potential entry above 26.90DKNG has corrected back to a possible near term resistence-turned-support @ 26.50 - 26.80.
Currently the bullish divergence between it's price and RSI is still intact (will be negated if price dips below its last pivot of 24.95).
I would consider to test a long entry for DKNS if it starts to go above the last candle high of 26.89 with an initial SL just slightly below its last pivot low of 24.95.
As swing trader, I will be trailing my stops on the way up should the trade works out.

A brutal movement in the price action of FORD
During my thorough analysis of FORD's 4-hour price action, an intriguing revelation emerged: a hidden bullish divergence, a distinct pattern that warrants attention. This intriguing phenomenon is characterized by the following indicator values:
- A price of $11.29 accompanied by a Relative Strength Index (RSI) of 38.96.
- Another price point at $11.99 coupled with an RSI reading of 18.84.
The RSI was more oversold at 11.99 $ then it was at 11.29 $ indicating that this was an overall uptrend and we now that if something is oversold, it should continue up and there you have your confirmation for your uptrend continuation making this a good place to enter.
Also please note that I would usually use the RSI on a 1H time frame to find these divergences, but here we have been able to detect them on a higher time frame such as the 4H which means that this is a more higher and accurate signal compared to the other regular one which makes these a more confident trade!
Quick Look - Bullish Divergence vs Bearish DivergenceHere is a graphical representation of the simple concept of bullish and bearish divergences.
Rules are pretty clear
Bearish Divergence
Happens only in uptrend
Observed on pivot Highs
Price makes higher high whereas oscillator makes lower high, indicating weakness and possible reversal
Bullish Divergence
Happens only in downtrend
Observed on pivot Lows
Price makes lower low whereas oscillator makes higher low, indicating weakness and possible reversal
Watch out for hidden divergences on the opposite pivots and breakouts in the direction of trend.
U - Bullish DivergenceU had been building a base since Last Sept (10 months in the making now) and had remained above its 200-day moving average since 6th June this year. We also saw a Golden Cross on 28th June. Hence the longer-term picture of U remains potentially bullish except that it has been very volatile since its first attempt to break above its basing neckline @ 42-43 on 16 June.
U has now broken up its neckline for the 3rd time (since 16th June) and once again, experienced another steep pullback (for the past 5 days). The pullback now appears to be stalling at the neckline and a bullish divergence is between its price and RSI is also emerging.
Could this bullish divergence be a clue to its earnings announcement (expected on 2nd Aug)?
However, bear in mind there is always an inherent risk to trade during earnings.
Should the stock be able to stay above its neckline in the coming days, then the odds have increased that it's uptrend could gain more stability (just hopefully though!). Meanwhile, buying the dips is still a safer way to approach this stock.

NQ - Bearish Divergence (short term pullback imminent?)A bearish divergence can be seen on both the SPX and Nasdaq (with similar divergences also seen on most of the FAANGT stocks), coupled with the fact the indices are now in the overbought territory, a pullback in the near future could be likely.
We saw both NFLX and TSLA sold off after hours despite strong earnings announcements. The market has been running into earning season and a correction would not be too surprising even if earnings are good ("buy" on expectations and sell on "news").
That said, divergences on the daily chart usually predicts a short term reversal (lasting several candles on the average) and not a predictor of a bigger trend change (unless seen on larger time frames like the weekly, if not monthly).
The market remains in uptrend with good support around 15100 - 15300 region. This is an area comprising:
1. a horizontal resistence turned support
2. the 50% to 61.8% fibonacci retracement of the recent AB swing
3. gap fills @ 15300 and also 15120
However, be wary should it break the support @ 15100. So let's see what happens.

Trading RSI Divergence: Unveiling Potential Opportunities In the world of technical analysis, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) serves as a valuable tool for traders seeking to identify potential trend shifts and entry points. RSI divergence, a divergence between the RSI indicator and the price movement, is a powerful signal that can offer insights into upcoming price reversals. This article provides an in-depth exploration of how to identify RSI divergences and the different types that traders encounter.
Understanding RSI Divergence:
RSI divergence occurs when the movement of the RSI indicator diverges from the movement of the price chart. It can signal a change in momentum and a possible upcoming trend reversal. There are two main types of RSI divergence: bullish and bearish.
Bullish Divergence:
Bullish divergence happens when the price forms lower lows while the RSI forms higher lows. This suggests that although the price is trending downward, the RSI is showing potential upward momentum. Bullish divergence can indicate that a downtrend might be losing steam and a bullish reversal could be imminent.
Example of Bullish Divergence :
Bearish Divergence:
Bearish divergence occurs when the price forms higher highs while the RSI forms lower highs. In this scenario, the price is moving upward while the RSI indicates a potential loss of upward momentum. Bearish divergence can signal that an uptrend might be weakening and a bearish reversal could be on the horizon.
Example of Bearish Divergence :
Identifying RSI Divergence:
To spot RSI divergence, follow these steps:
Analyze Price and RSI Trends: Examine the price chart and the RSI indicator. Pay attention to the highs and lows on both the price chart and the RSI line.
Look for Discrepancies: In bullish divergence, when the price forms lower lows, check if the RSI forms higher lows. In bearish divergence, when the price forms higher highs, check if the RSI forms lower highs.
Confirm with Other Indicators: Utilize other technical indicators or chart patterns to confirm the divergence signal. These indicators can strengthen the validity of your divergence findings.
Consider the Trend: Evaluate the prevailing trend on higher timeframes. Divergence signals are more significant when they align with the broader trend direction.
Be Mindful of Timeframes: RSI divergence signals can occur on various timeframes. Consider using multiple timeframes to validate and refine your divergence analysis.
Conclusion:
RSI divergence is a potent tool that traders can use to identify potential trend reversals and entry points. By understanding the different types of RSI divergence and following a systematic approach to identification, traders can gain valuable insights into the underlying momentum of an asset's price movement. Remember that while RSI divergence can provide powerful signals, it's essential to use it in conjunction with other technical analysis tools for a comprehensive trading strategy. 🚀🔍
OIL - DIVERGENCE at resistance level! As we see, the oil is very close to resistance level of 82,0 until 83,50. A divergence has formed which is a sign of weakness.
As soon as we see that the price bounces back from the resistance we can place a short order with SL the highs of the structure and TP 74,0.
We are looking at 1:5 RR which is very good risk to reward.
In case we brake the resistance level we look for a different scenario.
Your comments and support are more than welcome!
Time divergence trainingPlease note that the price was able to move from the ceiling during the time period specified in the box, but in the same time box, it could not return that way and it was filled within time. What it means in the market is that the power of buyers is more and there is a positive time divergence.
