Grain Futures Gain GroundGrain futures are higher in the early morning trade as some as headline risk looms into the weekend.
Corn
Technicals (May)
May corn futures are fractionally lower in the early morning trade as prices linger near our pivot pocket from 431 1/2-435, which just happens to be right near the middle of first support and first resistance. We like the upside potential in corn but some of the deferred contracts have a more friendly technical landscape than the May.

Technicals (May)
May soybean futures are fractionally higher in the early morning trade. Support from 1170-1175 will continue to be very important for the Bulls to defend through this week's trade. A break and close below could spark another wave of pressure. On the resistance side of things, they want to see a close above resistance from 1198-1205 1/2.

Wheat
Technicals (May)
Wheat futures broke out above trendline resistance last week which adds to the recent trend of higher highs and higher lows. If the Bulls can achieve a close above resistance from 568 1/2-570 we could see it open the door for an extension towards the psychologically and technically significant $6.00 level.

Grain
Go woke go broke? - Anheuser Busch
From a technical perspective, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) presents an attractive opportunity due to a substantial drawdown of over 20% since April, attributed to a perceived shift toward 'wokeness.' This phenomenon, commonly expressed as "go woke go broke," often reflects boycotts against companies embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion, or, in AB InBev's case, partnering with transgender influencers. However, this negative sentiment has potentially led to AB InBev being undervalued.
The uniqueness of this situation lies in AB InBev's diverse brand portfolio. Many of its brands are not immediately associated with the company, and while certain recognizable ones may face boycotts, the other brands continue to thrive. Notably, several of these brands hold higher market values than the more affordable ones that have been boycotted, which suggests that this strategic diversity could benefit the company.
Additionally, as the outrage associated with 'wokeness' appears to be subsiding, AB InBev may find itself in a more favorable market position. Furthermore, in times of economic uncertainty or conflict, consumer demand for alcoholic beverages typically increases, and AB InBev's comprehensive product range positions it well to meet this potential surge in demand.

ZW1! Wheat LongWheat futures have broken out of a falling wedge pattern on positive divergence. The price broke out of the wedge to the upside, then it back-tested the wedge from above, and proceeded to move up aggressively today. This is an objective buy signal.

Grains outlook hangs in the balance of the Black Sea Grain deal The failed rebellion by the Wagner group over the June 24th weekend brought to light not only the ineptitude of the Russian top military command but also the carefully crafted image of President Putin as the guarantor of stability. Putin’s assertion that the quick end of the 24-hour revolt had shown the unity of Russians behind him was contradicted by footage of adoring crowds cheering Prigozhin and his fighters as they came out of a southern city they had occupied. It is possible that Putin could step up the escalation between Russia and Ukraine to re-establish his position which currently appears weakened. The recent political turmoil in Russia lowers the probability of the Black Sea Grain deal being extended beyond mid-July (current deal expires on July 18th).
No respite in Russia’s sabre-rattling
Even prior to the failed coup in Russia, pessimism had been expressed by both the Russian and Ukrainian sides. One senior Ukrainian diplomat has even spoken of a 99% probability of Russia withdrawing from the agreement. Russia has repeatedly threatened to quit the deal, complaining that obstacles remain to its own exports of food and fertilizer. It has also demanded the re-opening of the ammonia pipeline as a condition for renewing the grain corridor deal through the Black Sea. However, the ammonia pipeline was damaged a day before the Kakhovka dam was destroyed on June 6. This increases the risk that Russia could after all follow through on its threat and revoke the grain deal as early as July.
Grains outlook clouded by Black Sea Grain deal
The original agreement brokered on 22 July 2022, by the United Nations and Turkey to open a safe maritime humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea helped to address the global food security crisis and lower grains prices. Participants on the agricultural markets remain anxious on the extension of the current deal and it could lend additional tailwinds to grains prices.
According to data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, wheat, corn and soybeans saw a 21%, 43% and 35% decline in short positioning underscoring a shift in sentiment towards weather uncertainty and geopolitical risk premiums.
Top wheat producers forecast weak supply outlook owing to adverse weather conditions
The prospects for the wheat crop in key producer countries has disappointed of late owing to adverse weather conditions. Dry conditions and low soil moisture in the west and east coasts of Australia imply that much of the 2023-24 crop has been sown dry and will require adequate and timely rain to allow the plants to germinate. Wheat is a major winter crop in Australia with planting from April and the harvest starting in November. The expected onset of the El Niño conditions from July will likely see winter crop output fall significantly according to Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Science (ABARES).
Across the globe, wild weather is affecting crops elsewhere, including Americas and North Africa. Europe is also being impacted by high temperatures and scant rainfall, increasing the risk of damage to the continent’s wheat crops.
On the flip side, Canada and Ukrainian wheat supply forecasts are positive. According to Statistics Canada, 26.9 million acres have been planted with wheat – not only is this the highest figure in 22 years, it is also 0.4 million acres more than the analysts surveyed by Bloomberg had expected . The Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) predicts significantly higher yields this year, meaning that the crop – contrary to what has been expected so far – could actually turn out to be higher than last season. However Ukrainian farmers are likely to struggle to export their grain owing to the uncertainty surrounding the Black Sea grains corridor.
Corn market remains bullish
Dry weather in the US and Europe has seen the condition of the corn and soybean crop deteriorate resulting in a price positive environment for corn and soybean. The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) in its latest crop progress report continues to highlight concerns for the US corn and soybean crop, given the current dry weather conditions. The USDA rates 50% of the corn crop in good-to-excellent condition compared to 67% seen at the same stage last year.
Moreover, the rating of the corn crop is the lowest seen for this time of year since 1988. This implies that the USDA’s optimistic forecast of 15.3bn bushels for the us corn crop in 2023/24 will hardly prove reasonable any longer. The National Centres for Environmental Prediction said it expects many parts of the Corn Belt that have been turning dry over the past month will get more rain than usual for this time of year over the next two weeks marking a change from earlier indications that El Niño would limit rainfall for thirsty crops.
Soybean is also facing a similar story with 51% of the soybean crop rated good-to-excellent condition compared to 65% at the same time last year . Growing pessimism over the extension of the Black Sea Grains deal beyond mid-July is also likely to lend an additional tailwind for corn and soybean. Weak Chinese imports through most of the 2022/23 season surged in May to over 14.8mmt of corn, wheat, and soybeans, which was the highest monthly total since June 2021 . However we would caution that a fairly muted crop-based biofuel quotas from the US Environmental Protection Agency could offset some of the strength in Chinese demand.
The front end of the soybean futures curve has extended its backwardation, now providing investors a 6.4% roll yield compared to 0% last month .

MOS Weekly TA Neutral BullishMOSUSD Weekly neutral with a bullish bias. Recommended ratio: 55% MOS, 45% Cash . *Fertilizer and grain prices are going down as supply chains ease due to a deal between Russia, Belarus and Ukraine that allows sanctions on fertilizer exports from Belarus and Russia to be lifted in exchange for Russia allowing Ukraine to resume grain exports from the Black Sea through Turkey. However, this could be short-lived considering: a) it's a deal with Russia who literally bombed a port in Odessa the day after signing the deal and b) that the world's second largest producer of fertilizer behind Russia (China) is likely to continue suspending exports of phosphates for the rest of 2022 . Although Mosaic's earnings and revenue were both up on the quarter they missed consensus estimates, while competitor Nutrien beat both estimates and had record earnings in the previous quarter; however, Mosaic expects revenue to continue to be strong for the remainder of 2022.* Price is currently trending up at $52.50 after breaking above the descending trendline from 04/18/22, it also broke above the 50 MA and $49 resistance and will need to close above it this week in order to reestablish support. Volume has been shrinking for the previous seven sessions (indicative of a potential pending breakout/breakdown) and is currently on track to favor buyers for five consecutive sessions if it can close this week in the green. Parabolic SAR flips bullish at $74.55, this margin is bullish at the moment. RSI is currently trending sideways at 50 after bouncing off the uptrend line from September 2015 at 40 support; the next resistance is at 53. Stochastic remains bullish and is currently trending up at 39 as it is still technically testing 29 resistance. MACD remains bearish and is currently trending sideways at -0.50 as it continues to form a trough, in order for a bullish crossover it would have to break above 1.10; the next resistance is 1.75. ADX is currently trending down slightly at 23 as Price is attempting to reverse the downtrend, this is neutral at the moment. If Price is able to establish support at $50 then the next likely target is a test of $56 resistance . However, if Price breaks down back below $50 support , it will likely retest the uptrend line from March 2020 at ~$45 . Mental Stop Loss: (one close below) $50 .
Corn sentiment is turning bearish - GrainStats.com CommunityCorn price sentiment is turning bearish according to the GrainStats.com community. They have been bullish for the past 6 months and have been right. The question is if the bear trend is here to stay and will it continue into the harvest months. Time will tell, until then a crop still needs to be made for bears to capitalize on bearish positions.
Corn Consolidates Ahead of USDA Report
Corn
Fundamentals: Corn futures have traded both sides of unchanged in the overnight and early morning session as prices consolidate ahead of end of month, end of quarter, and all-important USDA report. The range of estimates for acres comes in from 88.4-91.0 million. In March the USDA was at 89.5. The average estimate for US corn stocks as of June 1 is 4.345 billion bushels. In last year’s report we were at 4.111.
Technicals (September): Consolidation is the name of the game as we inch closer to the highly anticipated USDA report. With the market chopping around and not really going anywhere, many of our support and resistance levels remain unchanged. Resistance levels come in near 680ish and more significantly 700ish. The upper end would be a retracement of last week’s secondary breakdown point and represents the 100-day moving average, not to mention the psychological significance. On the support side, 645-652 ½ is the pocket the Bulls want to defend.

Can Corn Rally Ahead of the USDA Report?Corn
Seasonal Trends in Play: Short September corn from 6/13-7/27. This has been profitable for 13 of the last 15 years with the average gain being roughly 33 cents, or $1,650 per one 5,000-bushel contract.
Fundamentals: Yesterday’s crop progress showed deteriorating crop conditions (though still better than last year at this time) with good/excellent ratings at 67%, a 3% decline. This has led to overnight relief as we inch closer to Thursday’s USDA report which will cover planted acres and quarterly stocks. The range of estimates for acres comes in from 88.4-91.0 million. In March the USDA was at 89.5. The average estimate for US corn stocks as of June 1 is 4.345 billion bushels. In last years report we were at 4.111.
Technicals (September): The market dipped lower yesterday, taking out the Thursday lows but there wasn’t much follow through selling, which led to a rally off the lows into the afternoon. We would not be surprised to see the relief continue into Thursday’s USDA report, with resistance levels coming in near 680ish and more significantly 700ish. The upper end would be a retracement of last week’s secondary breakdown point and represents the 100-day moving average, not to mention the psychological significance.

Soybeans Find Their Footing
Soybeans
Fundamentals: Soybean futures are higher this morning after yesterday’s crop progress report showed a drop in good/excellent conditions of 3%. Keep in mind that we are still 5% better than where we were at this time last year. All eyes will be on Thursday’s USDA report. The range of estimates for planted acres is 89.2-92.4 million, the USDA was at 91.0 in March. The average estimate for US soybean ending stocks as of June 1 is .954 billion bushels. Last year at this time we were at .769.
Technicals (August): Soybeans are higher this morning as the market works to retrace and recoup the losses from the big down day last week. In yesterday’s report we talked about our pivot pocket at 1533 ½, stating “If the Bulls are able to chew through this level, we could see a bigger relief rally take us back to the other breakdown points from last week, which are anywhere from 30 to 70 cents higher.”. With that in mind, we would not be surprised to see additional relief come into the market ahead of the USDA report on Thursday.

Soybeans Break Below Support Soybeans (July)
Technicals: July soybean futures got hit hard last night and remain under pressure in the early morning trade. 4-star support from 1644 ¾-1650 looked as though it would hold into options expiration, with yesterday’s low coming in at 1647 ½. Those hopes evaporated quickly last night as the breakdown below support accelerated the selling, taking us down near our next support level, 1613 ¾. Will Corn Stabilize Ahead of Options Expiration
Corn (July)
Technicals: July corn futures are weaker in the overnight/early morning trade. Though it looks ugly on the screen, we have not broken below our significant support pocket, 747-753. As mentioned from the start of the week, July options expiration may be the catalyst to help July corn futures stabilize into the end of the week. December corn….no that’s a different story. Corn Futures Test and Defend Significant Support Corn
Technicals: In yesterday’s morning report we wrote that the early morning weakness below the 50-day moving average (near 780), stating that it “opens the door for a potential retest of significant support from 747-753”. That support was tested and held to a T through the session and in the overnight/early morning trade. Now it’s up to the Bulls to defend it during the regular trading hours. One thing that might help is this week’s options expiration. There is a lot of open interest in the 750 strike, which may help the market consolidate, we talked about this in yesterday afternoon’s Tech Talk. WEAT Breaking Below SupportWEAT is breaking down as grain futures get hit hard following a long holiday weekend. July Chicago wheat is currently down 35 cents. July KC Wheat is down 49 cents. No new news to feed the Bulls could trigger additional long liquidation.
Wheat Futures Break Below Support Wheat

The rest of the day was steady selling, pressing prices into negative territory by the close. That weakness has spilled into the overnight and early morning trade, following a long weekend. Wheat: More of the Same, Trading in a RangeWheat
Fundamentals: This morning’s weekly export sales report showed net sales of 236,900 metric tons (MT) for 2022/2023.
Technicals: Wheat futures were able to defend technical support yesterday, we’ve had that defined as 1027 ¼-1034 ¼. If you’re Bullish, this is a spot to consider buying against as the risk is fairly well defined. If we break and close below that pocket, that would be your sign to take the L and move on. Wheat Futures Test Significant Support
Wheat
Technicals: Wheat futures came within a stone's throw of 4-star support overnight, we've had that labeled as 1027 1/4-1034 1/4, the low was 1036 1/2. If you're Bullish (we aren't) that is a good spot to consider buying as the risk is fairly well defined. A break and close below that pocket could open the door for a break back below $10.00 and below, with the next significant support coming in closer to 975.

This Corn Seasonal is in PlayCorn
Seasonal Trends in Play: Short September corn from 6/13-7/27. This has been profitable for 13 of the last 15 years with the average gain being roughly 33 cents, or $1,650 per one 5,000-bushel contract.
Technicals: Corn futures were able to defend the previous day's low during yesterday's session but didn't do much to change the technical outlook. Our pivot pocket remains intact, that comes in from 769-773 1/2. trendline resistance and the 50-day moving average come in just above that, near 776-778. On the support side of things, 747-753 is the significant pocket and potential inflection point. If the Bulls fail to defend that pocket, we could see long liquidation take us back to the lows from two weeks ago, in the mid 720s.

Daily Corn Market Update: Fundamental/Techncial Analysis 6.14.22Corn
Fundamentals: Yesterday’s weekly Crop Progress report showed corn is 97% planted, 88% emerged, and Good/Excellent conditions at 72%. All within the range of expectations. Yesterday’s weekly export inspections came in at 1,199,976. This was also within the range of expectations. Dr. Cordonnier increased Brazilian corn production by 3mmt to 110mmt. The USDA is at 116mmt, we believe the market is pricing in somewhere in the middle of those two estimates.
Technicals (July): July corn futures were lower yesterday, but finished off the lows, closing right near our pivot pocket, 769-773 ½. We are seeing some of yesterday’s weakness spill over into the overnight/early morning session following yesterday afternoon’s crop progress report. Technical levels remain largely intact. Resistance remains intact from 789 ½-790 ½. A continued failure to reclaim ground above here would mark a lower high, which would keep the door open for a potential lower low and a drop back to the 100-day moving average, 726 ½. The inflection point for a bigger drop would be a break and close below 747-753.

Daily Wheat Market Update (6.14.22)Wheat
Technicals (July): More of the same for wheat, as we continue to trade in a range, albeit a wide range. Wheat futures continue to chop around from about 1030 on the low end and 1100 on the high end. A breakout or breakdown from these levels could pop or drop the market 50 cents relatively quickly. Our bias is Neutral at the moment, but we would be looking to be lean bearish at higher levels. When we say higher levels, we are talking about a retracement of the May 31st breakdown point near 1150.
