Reading a chart is not a very difficult art. Today we will try to understand how to read the charts how to make assumptions based on the same. First thing that one must understand that it is not a rocket science. One has to be creative, attentive and a sort of meditative. Albert Einstein once said that "it is not that I am smart but I stay with the questions much longer".
For reading the chart one must ask questions to the chart and observe the answers by reading between the lines and understanding the patterns. Everything has patterns. Even time is not linear even as per Vedas the time is cyclical. That's why we have God (Generator, Operator and Destroyer). If time is cyclical the cycle is a pattern. We say that history repeats itself.
Stock market legend Jesse Livermore once said "All through time, people have basically acted and reacted the same way in the market as a result of greed, fear, ignorance, and hope. That is why the numerical formations and patterns recur on a constant basis. Patterns repeat because human nature hasn’t changed for thousands of years” If you want to know more about Jesse Live more you can watch the movies like The American Clock, The day the bubble burst or The bucket Boy.
Thus by asking the question to the chart and by observing the chart and searching fo the answers by noticing the patterns, historic layouts, supports, resistances and applying certain amount of basic maths and common sense one can come to know about the risk is to reward ratio in buying a stock or a derivative.
'Breakout' or Breakout level is what we are searching for. The coveted breakout may happen or it may not even after calculations and chart study and fundamental analysis. So if break out fails you must have a stop loss to protect your capital. If breakout actually happens you let your money work and reap the benefit. After having understood this basic concept let us try to analyse the chart of IDBI Bank for the purpose of education. I will mention below my observations of the same. The purpose of this analysis is educational and one must not treat it as a buy or sell call.
The First thing that I observe here is that the stock is moving in a particular parallel channel. Many of the stocks do move in channels. There are different kind of channels and this one is a parallel channel. In a parallel channel channel top works as a resistance, Channel bottom works as a support and mid channel might work as a support if stock price is above it. The same mid channel will work as a resistance if the stock price is below it. Thus we get a Long term target 120 which can be the channel top. We get a long term support 75 which can be the channel bottom. The point to note is that 75 level has been supporting this stock since March 24. The stock has bounced from there many a times as indicated in the chart. In this particular case mid channel will work like a resistance. The real breakout might happen after we get a closing above it at the levels of 91.6.
CMP of the stock is 85.12 but before we reach 91.6. There is a scope of trend line breakout if the stock closes above 87.6. Thus 91.6 is my first target. The closing above 91.6 can also be treated as a compounding point for stock's further journey. You can also think of takin partial entries at 87.6 and 91.6. If I am a Short term trader, I can even trade the stock for the target of 91.6. After closing above 91.6 further targets can be 96, 99, 101, 105, 107 and finally 120. Partial profit booking can also be done at these various levels. Trailing stop loss can also be increased step by step as the stock moves northwards.
You can never be overconfident in your analysis. Stock market is a graveyard of lot of over confident people. The design of stock market is such that it transfers money from the impatient to the patient. Thus you need a stop loss in case your break out fails. In this particular case I can keep my stop loss at either at a closing below 83 as there are Mother and Father lines (50 and 200 days EMA) at this point. To know more about stuff like parallel channel, Mother Father and Small child theory and much more interesting ways to make your money work through Techno-Funda investing. You can read my book The Happy Candles Way to wealth creation. The book is available on Amazon in (Paperback) and Kindle version (E-Version). The book has potential to become your handbook or an investment guide.
If I am little bit more risk taking person I will keep the stop loss at closing below 75 in this case as 75 has historically provided a great support to the stock. Additionally now it has also become more powerful by becoming a channel bottom support (Importance of channel bottom support is discussed earlier in the article). A person who looks at the risk reward ratio can see that down side risk is Rs.2 or Rs.10 considering my risk taking ability and upside potential is around Rs 35. If you consider 120 as a channel top. So incase I keep my stop loss at 75 and my long term target at 120 my risk reward ratio can be 1:3.5. In case if I keep my target at 99 and my stop loss at 83 my risk reward ratio is 1:7 or so. So the risk reward ratio is a dynamic number which will keep changing depending on your target and risk taking ability. You need to calculate it personally. There can not be a universal risk reward ratio. As different people will keep different targets and different stop losses. Once you have determined your target and stop loss adhere to it strictly. In case of stop loss you have to be particularly strict. In case of target you can let the stock fly even higher than your target but you have to adhere to a trailing stop loss strictly. My book about which I have a description earlier talks at depth about stop loss and trailing stop loss.
I sincerely hope that this write-up will help you in reading the charts, understanding the importance of charts and becoming a better investor.

Motherfatherandsmallchildtheory
Mother Father and small child theory proven right again. The moves that we saw in Nifty today were volatile, insane, bullish. Bears tried their best to stem the rally but Bulls won big with Mother line on daily chart providing / confirming support and giving ashirwaad. The low for Nifty was 24295 the high was 24857. The candle moved violently between the 2 extreme points. Mother line gave proper support and pulled Nifty up again closing the day at 24708. Again proving that when Mother and Father line give support or ashirwad there can be no stopping.
Support for Nifty remain at : 24385 (Strong Mother line support), 24295, 23936 and 23607 (Father line). Below 23607 Nifty can fall again in bear grip.
Resistances for Nifty remain at : 24723, 24857, 25036 and 25212. Above 25212 Nifty will be totally in Bull grip.

Resistance zone of Trendline Mother Line on stopping BullsOn the Daily candles chart of Nifty we can clearly see that Mother line and the trend line resistances are acting upon the Nifty and restricting it's further flight. Today we saw creation of another Doji like Monday. The Gap theory probably is also adding pressure on the Nifty. (Gap Theory is a very interesting subject about which we will sometimes do a special video.) Most of the gaps when a stock or index takes a leap should be filled in future as per the theory (in short). There was a gap up on Monday due to Maharashtra election results. In my opinion not all gaps are supposed to be filled there are some substantial gaps which never get filled. However we will do a webinar on this subject in future some day.
Right now the major resistance zone is here for Bulls this zone starts from 24354 and ends at 24396. Nifty might need some consolidation or strong FII+DII buying to fly above this zone. If this zone is conquered further resistances will be at 24530, 24673, 24893 and 25253. Above 25253 there is pure Bull territory.
Supports on the lower side are at 24135 major support (Higher Cradle of The Gap on Monday), 23948 (Lower cradle of the Gap), 23563 Major support from the 200 days EMA or the Father line, 23362 and finally 23254. Below 23254 we have a strong Bear territory.

Nifty chart explains Mother-Father & Small Child theory and RSICurrent Nifty daily chart explains Mother-Father & Small Child theory and RSI very well have a look. As we can see and explained in my previous articles in Smart Investment as well as my book, The Happy Candles Way to wealth creation available on Amazon in Paperback and kindle version. The book in E-version is also available on Google Play books. Every time and again Nifty for cooling down from the overbought zone, consolidation, finding support and finding bottom in case of a bear market looks towards taking blessing or ashirwad from mother regularly and father some times. Wherein we call 50 EMA the Mother, 200 EMA of the father and movement of the candle sticks as movement of a 3 year old kid who is moving in a garden. The theory has been explained in depth in my previous articles and books but what you read above is in a nutshell.
This time as there were serious issues related to FIIs selling continuously, issues regarding inflation, consumption and domestic demand being weak we saw a steep correction in Nifty from its high. The global issues like escalating Iran Vs Israel tensions, US elections, Ukraine Vs Russia war again gaining momentum also played a spoilsport for bulls along with new episode of Adani saga. The correction might not be over we do not know for sure where the exact top and exact bottoms are but we can predict zones that can provide resistance and supports accurately.
Mother and Father lines we consider major supports and well as major resistances. They are major and most important supports if price of the particular stock or index is above the lines and they will be major resistance if the price of the stock is below them. On Friday we got a strong closing above the 200 days EMA which means if we get a follow up bullish candle on Monday and index continues to sustain above 200 days EMA things can go North in favour of Bulls. If Bulls can manage to get a closing above 50 days EMA or mother line the rally can enter a very strong zone. Another noteworthy point is that Nifty also hit a near channel bottom support as well as RSI also hit an oversold zone.
Thus getting a positive closing to next week and further extending the closing above Mother line will be very important going forward. Supports for Nifty remain at 23542(Strong Father line Support), 23259, 22801 and 22139. Resistances on the upper side are 23965, 24259, 24417 (Strong Mother line resistance) and 24909 before we again reach 25K+ levels.

Learn Mother, Father and small child theory and Parallel channelThis is an educational video explaining medium to long term analysis of Nifty for educational purpose through my Mother, Father and Small Child theory. I am also trying to explain what happens in the long run, also you will find insights of how to use and draw a parallel channel. I have also done an analysis of Nifty supports and resistances in the medium to long term. We are also trying to understand what can be the channel top in the long run. We are also trying to see how RSI works in brief. The attempt is to explain a lot of stuff in simple jargon free language in roughly 16 minute video so that you get lot of education. It is going to be a power packed 16 minutes once you watch it. Do not forget to like/ boost our video and subscribe our channel.
To learn Mother, Father and small child theory to the deeper extent and to learn about RSI do read my book: The Happy Candles Way to Wealth creation available on Amazon in Paperback and Kindle version. The book is also available on Google playbook in E-version.
Disclaimer: Purpose of the video is for education. Do not treat this as a buy or sell call on Nifty. I am just trying to teach / throw light on Mother, Father and small child theory in brief along with the use of parallel channel. Hindi and English both languages are used in the video for wider audience to understand the same.
Escalation in Russia, Ukraine war spoils the Nifty recovery Nifty was doing quiet well and had a strong momentum going forward. On the daily chart it had gone substantially above 200 days EMA (23541) and reached 23780. Three of things happened after that.
1) There was a massive escalation in Russia Ukraine war where Putin approved use of Nuclear weapons if required. At the same time news of Ukraine hitting Russia with ATACMS US made Long Range missile. (Bloomberg reports). This is a massive event with long global consequences. Which might be parting 'gift' from Biden to Trump. (Probably to create a difficult situation for incoming Trump).
2) Nifty hit 50 hours EMA or Mother line at 23770. As all who read my posts regularly, those who have watched my videos, taken training from me and Those who have read my Mother, Father and Small Child theory know the consequences of the same. The mother line acted on and pushed the Nifty down towards the doldrums again where it closed the day below (200 days EMA or Father line at 23541) at 23518. This is a massive jolt and only time can tell if Nifty can stage a recovery again on 21st November 2024, Thursday. As we have a holiday due to Maharashtra elections tomorrow. To know more about one of the most accurate Mother, Father and small child theory which makes your equity investment easy read my book The Happy Candles Way to Wealth creation available on Amazon in paperback edition. The same is available on Kidnle and Google Play book in E-Version.
3) Third possible thing was Bulls would not want to carry long positions with impending Maharashtra election results. The election is tough to predict with political mess in Maharashtra. Elections in India are anyway difficult to predict now a days.
These reasons led to massive fall of 262 points. This fall can disharten the bulls as well making the upward recovery difficult again. Positive closing in Green is the only good thing that we can take forward from today's action.
Supports for Nifty remain at 23350, 23110, 22796, 22499, 21890 and finally 21313. Below 22796 is a pure bear territory.
Resistances for Nifty remain at 23629, 23770 (Major Mother line Resistance which blocked the up move today), Post that there will be Father line resistance of 200 Hours EMA at 24311. After 24311 closing or weekly closing bear can take a back seat and Bulls will have capacity to pull Nifty above 25012 or even 25351 and above.

30 Months Channel of Nifty suggesting Father line supportThe 30 month channel in which Nifty is travelling seems to suggest that we are near 3 critical support zones. We might see a bottom formation within this week or the next week beginning. Perhaps the pain of retail investors might end soon with chances of sectoral rotation. Let us have a look at medium to long term outlook.
As we have indicated time and again Nifty comes to meet the father line and take ashirwaad of father once in a while this is that phase. Last time Nifty came to take father line support was in October 2023. It has been more than one year now and it was imperative for Nifty to meet the Father line. FIIs helped in the process by selling enmass.
Three Major Supports for Nifty are:
1) 200 day EMA or Father line at 23542.
2) High before Lok Sabha Election Results 23352.
3) Parallel Channel Bottom near 22845.
Either of these 3 levels can be the come back zones.
Three Major Resistances for Nifty going forward will be:
1) 24040 Critical short term trend line resistance.
2) Major Mother line (50 days EMA) Resistance at 24608.
3) Shoulder of the Head and Shoulder Breakdown from where the free fall started 25436.
4) Other important resistances will be at 26277 (Previous All Time High)
5) Channel Top resistance will be in the zone of 27037 to 27705.

Continuing the Moon Phase Vs Nifty chart further. Yesterday in the message we understood how The dark circle resonates with the dates of no moon day and Grey circle indicates the day when we saw a full moon. Invariably in most of the no moon days as can be seen in the chart index is at the peak near no moon day. Then there is a fall seen in Nifty. Recovery starts in few days of Full moon day and then again Nifty makes a peak near no moon day. We were trying to contemplate if it is a coincidence. Now we saw a small turnaround today. We do not know if this will hold and if the recovery will start from here and now but we will juxtapose Moon Phases Vs Nifty chart with our Mother, Father and Small Child theory, RSI and Bollinger bands and see what levels we get for support and resistances further.
RSI is currently on daily chart is at 41.27 having taken support near 37 zone. This seems to be a good support zone for RSI as it as bounced from there and there about several times. Nifty took baby steps to recovery on Friday as Full Moon is done. Lowest RSI on daily chart was around 32 that was exactly one year back so we can expect either of these two levels to hold fort.
Father line support is near 23404. Bollinger band shows a support zone near 24373 range in case Nifty takes a dip from here. Mother line resistance is near 25026 and Bollinger Median resistance is near 25372. Resistance for nifty based on Bollinger band top seems to be at 26372.
Mother, Father and Small Child theory is explained in my book Happy Candles Way to Wealth creation. The book is available on Amazon in Paperback and Kindle version. Do read it as many reviewers on Amazon consider it as a Hand book to equity investment.
In this way we have tried to deduce support and resistance levels of Nifty with the help of Mother, Father and Small Child theory, Bollinger band, RSI. We tried to predict the turnaround phases for Nifty’s upward and downward runs by juxtapositioning it with phases of Moon. To a normal eye all this looks a little complicated and difficult but when you dissect it and spend time with the chart you will be able to deconstruct it bit by bit, frame by frame and level by level.

EMA, SMA and which one to choose? Educational PostArticle Written by Author of the book: The Happy Candles Way to wealth creation.
There is always a lot of debate while using chart whether to use EMA or SMA.
EMA = Exponential Moving Average.
SMA = Simple Moving Average.
In the below chart Black and Orange lines represent 50 and 200 EMA. Blue and the Lavender line represent the 50 and 200 SMA.
Simple Moving average is the actual average of the kind of SMA you are using that is 50 SMA is average of last fifty closings. Exponential moving average gives more importance to the recent price and less to the past prices in that order. For example, if you are calculating 50 EMA the weightage given to yesterday’s price is more than the weightage given to the price before 49 days. I personally use EMA for my charts when I want to take entry to some stocks. As I feel recent price influence the move of the candles more than past prices for future upward movement. At the same time for Profit booking I give more importance to SMA and 21 SMA in particular as I base my trailing stop losses based on monthly average.
To know more about EMAs and SMAs and importance of EMAs in particular you can read my book. The Happy Candles Way to wealth creation available in Paperback and Kindle version on Amazon where I have explained my Mother, Father and Small Child theory where I consider 50 EMA as mother line 200 EMA as father line and movement of a candle is compared to movement of a child playing in garden. In a very simple way I have tried to explain Techincal analysis related to stock price movement and their relation to EMAs.
Now whichever EMA or SMA you use. What I feel is you should remain consistent with it. Do not keep switching between the two. As you can see from the chart there is no major difference in position of both lines in the chart specially when the EMA or SMA is smaller in number. Moving averages are very helpful in determining the trend of the stock. Chances of its correction and support the stock price will get while falling down or resistance it might face if the price is below those lines.
EMAs and SMAs are excellent support when the stock price is above them and become fierce resistnace when the stock price is below these lines. Thus knowing where they are with respect to price is very important. My advice will be EMA or SMA should be part of your chart. Which one you use is a matter of choice. Staying consistent to the moving average you choose is important as Harivansh Rai Bachhan the famous Poet has said in his most famous poem Madhushala and I quote him, “Rah Pakad tu ek chala chal pa jayega Madhushala”. Meaning be consistent to your path and you will find your target.
