One Chart to Rule them All ~ 10Y/2Y and 10Y/3M Yield Spreads10Y/2Y and 10Y/3M Yield Spread
One chart to rule them all. I have combined the 10Y/2Y Yield Spread (purple line) and the 10Y/3M Yield Spread (blue line) onto one chart. You can get updated readings on it at anytime on my TradingView page (link in bio above)
I have measured the historic timeframe from un-inversion to recession for both datasets. Un-inversion occurs when the yield spread rises back above the 0 level.
Given the 10Y/2Y Yield Spread has just un-inverted (moved above 0), I thought this a worthy exercise. The findings are interesting and useful.
Main Findings / Trigger Levels
The findings are based on the last 4 recessions (this as far back as the 10Y/3M Yield Spread chart will go);
▫️ Before all four recessions both yield spreads un-inverted (only one has to date);
- At present only the 10Y/2Y yield spread has un-inverted (2nd Sept 2024), thus we can watch for the next warning signal which is an un-inversion of the 10Y/3M yield spread. Without both yield spreads un-inverting the probability of recession is reduced.
▫️ The 10Y/2Y typically un-inverts first and the 10Y/3M un-inverts second.
-Historically the delay between the 10Y/2Y and the 10Y/3M un-inversion is between 3 to 10 weeks (23rd Sept – 11th Nov). This is the date window that we can watch for a 10Y/3M un-inversion (based on historic norms).
-If we move outside this window beyond the 18th Nov with no 10Y/3M un-inversion, then we are outside the historic norms and something different is happening. Nonetheless watching for the un-inversion of the 10Y/3M after this date could be consequential.
▫️ On the chart I have used the last four 10Y/2Y yield spread un-inversion timeframes to recession and created a purple area to forecast these from the recent the inversion on the 2nd Sept 2024 forward (Labelled 1 - 4). This creates a nice visual on the
chart. Based on these historic timeframes and subject to the follow up 10Y/3M un-inversion confirming in coming weeks, the potential recession dates are as follows (also marked on chart);
1.28th Oct 2024 (based on 2000 10Y/2Y un-inversion to recession timeframe)
2.03rd Feb 2025 (based on 2020 10Y/2Y un-inversion to recession timeframe)
3.12th May 2025 (based on 2007 10Y/2Y un-inversion to recession timeframe)
4.25th August 2025 (based on 1990 10Y/2Y un-inversion to recession timeframe)

▫️ I will include a table in the comments which outlines all of the above metrics with dates. I will also share a chart with a zoomed in version of present day so that all the above trigger dates can be more closely monitored.
Finally, it’s important to recognize that these findings and trigger levels are based on the last four recessions. There is no guarantee that a recession will occur or occur within the set trigger levels. What we have is a probabilistic guide based on historic patterns. This time could play out very differently or not play out at all. Regardless, all of the above findings help us gauge the probability of a recession with historic timeframes to watch. It leaves us better armed to make the necessary risk adjustments, particularly if the 10Y/3M yield curve un-inverts.
Price is king, and at present, prices are pressing higher on most relevant market assets. From the above findings and the current positive market price action, it appears we have a little more time before being hauled into a longer-term correction or recession. I lean towards the later dates (2, 3, and 4 above) for this reason. Interestingly, many of my historic charts from months ago and last year suggested Jan/Feb 2025 (also option 2 above) as a very high-risk period. You can view these charts under the above specific chart on TradingView.

The Chart The FRED Does Not Want You To See - All Wrong.
Can't help but notice the incredible amount of people calling for recession this or no recession both on Bloomberg and CNBC using the 10Y -2Y without adjusting it for the money debasement?
Could not be more clearer almost all of these "market experts" still living in pre 2008 with their degrees are going to be absolutely obliterated buy the CPI and eventual return of inflation.
ADJ the 10Y -2Y to the M2 that includes the debasement of bail outs you can see the US bonds are in a spiral down and down. Why?
You can't get Japan to YCC bond yields with printed currency to prop up the market this leaves smart investors selling the bonds and the yield goes up.
The FRED on purpose has tried to create disinflation causing mass money to flow back into the US bonds to prop down the yield as the "experts want more return on inflation.
Sorry Japan is having an inflation crisis and they need to sell the US bonds, and China is selling too.
Now you get a failing US bond market that could be in a bear market on nominal value to inflation for the next decade.
"experts" purchasing high yielding bonds that cannot outrun US CPI yes you're going to lose.
"experts" longing instruments like TLT expecting mass cash to flow back into US bonds you're praying and hoping the FRED starts YCC or Japan sends their economy down the drain to save the US bond system.
We've been in a recession since 2009, reason these "experts" on tv don't notice this is due to them owning assets that benefit from monetary policy and fiscal debasement.
Bill Ackman has recently figured this out too taking a defensive position on this. Some are shorting bonds, some allocating to Gold, some allocating to Bitcoin.
Is Bill Ackman insane? or has he simply figured the FRED used fake data to try get the market to flee from markets causing deflation.

2023 - We can't have a recession if we've been in one since 08.
MACRO UPDATE - History is no longer reality since debasement
Take some time to focus on the information and macro movement here and compare it with my notes.
Why are leading economists and leading institutions fumbling? imagine comparing history prior to 2008 where Quantitative Easing did not exist.
No standard macro indicator will be accurate due to the debasement of money that happen during the GFC, compare the SPY to money supply we see that we barely have reached post 2001 levels, 2007 highs.
Jerome Powell will not admit this because the system has basically been debased hence the over compensation for rate rises why did he do it? because the debt situation is worse than it seems.
This is a very unique situation where retail is still majority short on options/futures while money market funds are still in trillions of cash. If this does play out and you're an institution do you wait for the final bubble to melt up? or do you allocate now and try to capitalize or risk missing the market, either way, something interesting is about to happen.
Reminder NO economic indicator can be trusted prior to 2008, its like using map plans for Atlantis you will quickly find out all your indicators are defected.

SPY ADJUSTED T10Y2Y / M2 MARKET BOTTOM - HYPERINFLATION
A lot of charters trying to bring to light the T10Y2Y, not a lot of charters adjusting the yield to the M1 or M2 supply correcting it for the QE that did not exist to prior times this has predicted recessions.
What does it tell us when we do this? you've missed the bottom.
What's even more scary? the US stock market has not yielded real gaining returns for 23.26 years. (adjusted for printing or QE)
Producer Price Index by Commodity: All Commodities (PPIACO)
has reached 257.022 from 130 in 2000.
You want to know why the FED forces focus on Y/Y inflation and not PPI? or adjusted stock markets to M1?
Simple you would learn very quickly that the US FED system has a hyperinflation problem that's unfolding and BRICS are aware of this.
When does the panic start? when the US public debt hits 50 Trillion? 100 Trillion? 500 Trillion? hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Weimar Germans will tell you once this starts to accelerate there's nothing that can be done to stop this unfolding unless a total lock up control of the system is implemented.
Now the only way to do this would be a CBDC. .
The QE(xperience)Quantitative Easing, a fancy way of describing a bubble, the easy way out.
QE Alpha
During QE Alpha, speculation lead to a massive bubble, and a painful burst.
Technicals: A Fibonacci Retracement shows that price followed closely it's levels.
QE Beta
During QE Beta, after stabilizing from the Great Depression, and after the end of WW2, economy rose steadily. US being one of the winners of WW2 and with the Marshall Plan deal, had a big advantage compared to the rest of the world.
Technicals: The 1.618 retracement proves a significant resistance from above, which behaved as the ceiling for the Great Stagflation period of 1960s. Price reached an indecision where price couldn't penetrate the 1.618 retracement, but didn't want to fall below the 1929 high. A golden bull-flag was created, which escaped to the upside in 1982.
QE 1.0
After severe stagflation, a new era of progressively lower yields led to the creation of the mechanism for QE1. It's fuel ended in 2000, and for a decade, the economy had big trouble going forward. It wasn't until the GFC when the foundation was set for the birth of QE2.
Technicals: We have reached the 3rd harmonic and this proves big resistance for price. During this time, a harmonic bull-flag shaped.
QE 2.0
The QExperience, which until now was unknown and unnamed, had now a name. And we have lived with it until 2021. Derivatives came about and inflated what is left to inflate. Since day 1 of 2022 we are outside it's trend.
Technicals: Retracements drawn using the Great Depression peaks/bottoms constitute significant support/resistance levels.
Conclusion: This SPX modificator makes historical analysis of SPX more mathematically accurate and clearer to see/analyze. A new era of increasing yields leads to multiplicative problems in the QE machine. Welcome to the QT era. We are already in it, for the past year, we hope you enjoy your stay!
Look at the GFC intervention.
The modified SPX chart depends on yields. More about it on this chaotic, full-of-mistakes idea.
Tread lightly, for this is hallowed ground.
