RBI releases MPC meeting schedule for FY26: Here are the dates
The dates for the FY2025- 26 Reserve Bank of India's(RBI) rate-setting panel have been announced by the Reserve Bank of India(RBI), and the central bank will hold its first meeting in the new financial year from April 7-9. A total of six MPC meetings are scheduled for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2025.
RBI will hold its next MPC meeting from June 4-6 followed by the third MPC meeting from August 5-7. The last three meetings will be as follows: September 29, 30, and October 1, 2025, December 3, 4 and 5, 2025; February 4, 5, and 6, 2026.
Typically, the six-member panel votes on a resolution on the third day of the meeting and the governor announces the decision in the first half of the day after the vote is completed. The six-member panel headed by the governor has three external members.
The MPC announces the bi-monthly monetary policy after deliberations on the prevailing domestic and economic situations.
The RBI at its meeting held from February 5 to 7 effected the rate cut after a gap of five years.
The Monetary Policy Committee, headed by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, slashed the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25 per cent. This was the first reduction since May 2020 and the first revision after two-and-a-half years.Sanjay Malhotra, a career bureaucrat who replaced Shaktikanta Das barely days after the last bi-monthly MPC meeting in December, forecast the Indian economy to grow at 6.7 per cent in the fiscal year starting April 2025 while inflation rate to lower to 4.2 per cent.
