$TRUMP: Donald Trump Rolls Out Official Meme Coin (Price Soars 1,000% Overnight)
Key points:
- Trump meme blasts off
- Trump meme knows no limits
- Trump meme is all… froth and noise?
Incoming President’s meme token was quickly scooped up, lifting its market cap to more than $20 billion during weekend trading.
🗽 Surprise Launch: Trump Meme Goes Off
- It’s official! Donald Trump has launched a meme coin — the same ones that make lots of buzz, get tons of attention and may or may not result in froth that quickly evaporates, leaving hopeful buyers holding the bag. Trump’s token, aptly called “Trump Meme” (TRUMPUSDT) is now circulating across exchanges, pulling in billions.
- Disbelieving users probably had to wonder whether someone hacked into Trump’s accounts both on X and on his social media platform Truth Social. But it was all actually happening by the man himself.
🤏 Looking at the Small Print
- “My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE! It’s time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING! Join my very special Trump Community. GET YOUR $TRUMP NOW,” the posts on both platforms said. Oddly, there were some highly specific bits of text in the Terms and Conditions listed on the token’s website.
- The Trump tokens are not an investment, not an investment contract, not a security, and have “nothing to do with any political campaign or any political office or governmental agency.” Still, the Trump Organization is entitled to get revenue “derived from the trading activities” of these memes.
🔥 When FOMO Really Kicks In
- Despite the sketchy context, the Trump tokens surged. By a lot. First announced Friday night, the tokens were boasting a market cap of more than $20 billion, adding a bombastic 1,000% increase with prices floating near $70 a piece. Not right now, though. Right now, the token has given back about 30%.
- According to the website, which bills the meme as the “only official Trump meme,” as much as 80% of the supply is held by Trump Organization affiliate CIC Digital, and a CIC co-owned entity called Fight Fight Fight LLC. (That’s what Trump shouted after he was grazed by a bullet at a rally in July.)
- Oh, and by the way, the meme was launched on the Solana blockchain, propelling the Solana token to a new all-time high of $292 a piece.
