What are Dividends Payable?

Dividends Payable represent all dividends to common shareholders proposed by the board, but not yet paid or appropriated in Shareholder’s Equity. In addition, dividends payable represent accumulated, unpaid dividends due to shareholders of preferred stock, which are expected to be distributed within the current period.
