Economic calendar: features overview

Economic calendar is an essential tool for investors that help track the most important events and data of the financial world, from countries’ economic indicators like GDP or interest rate to announcements of the Federal Reserve and other organizations. Since markets are often complex and uncertain, tools like economic calendars help see a clear picture of what’s moving and prepare for fluctuations. Let’s take a closer look at the TradingView Economic Calendar and see what features are at your disposal.

Overview

In its columns, the calendar first lists the time of the announcement or report release and then the country it came from. Right next to the country, you can see a small graph illustrating the importance of the event so that you can quickly assess what requires immediate attention. Then goes the event itself — it can be economic data, employment reports, central bank announcements, shifts in government policy, and even tweets from certain world leaders, practically everything that may influence markets.

By clicking on the event, you will see its description and three options: Launch chart will open a detailed chart of the indicator, See overview will refer you to the indicators’ symbol page with the chart, news, and other related information, Add to calendar adds the event to your Google calendar to make sure you don’t miss it.

In the calendar, you’ll also find the Actual and Forecast columns: the first one shows the actual value of the indicators as opposed to what was expected — this can help better evaluate past reports. The second one shows the forecast for the indicator, which many traders use to develop more thought-through strategies. At last, on the very right, you will see the Prior column, which has the previous values of the indicators —  all to see the full scale of an economic event.

Filters

Now that you’re familiar with what the Economic calendar contains, let’s see what you can do to focus on the information you need. There are several filters to help with that:

  • Countries: lets you choose one or several countries to receive reports from. You can always set this filter to the Entire world option if your strategy requires data from all possible sources.
  • High importance: when on, this mode shows only events with the highest importance so that you can focus on key data

  • Period options: with just one button, you can choose to see only upcoming economic events, past reports that took place yesterday, or events to be announced today, tomorrow, and this week.
  • Categories menu: here, you can select a category to see only the kind of announcements to do with Interest rate, Inflation, Bonds, etc. If you don’t look for anything specific, just settle with the All categories option that is used by default.
  • Time zone: to make your search for events even more precise, you can use this filter to choose a necessary timezone.

With the right filters and careful research of the data found, the Economic calendar can become a powerful tool for global markets analysis.

And do not forget that TradingView tools are optimized for websites, so with just one click on the Get widget button in the top right corner, you can get the calendar’s code and integrate it on your own website to inform your users about important economic reports:
