Bubble ETF to speculate SPX movesIn traditional markets, especially equities, individual tickers/ETFs/main indices can lag one another but they all move in the same direction at a HTF. It is only the strength of their moves which brings a divergence in their price. This can be a useful tool/signal to speculate when the markets are going to make an important bear/bull turn and also see where they are placed in the cycle. Here I am making use of the Renaissance IPO fund which ran its bubble course after Covid and burst spectacularly back to the Covid lows. This zone is obviously an important pivot suggesting currently in EW 4th wave retrace and taking a modest .382 fib retrace gives the fund a further ~20% increase. This can at the minimum equate to a 3 to 6% run for SPX which puts it around the 4300 - 4500 area. At least, it can inform us that there is a further run for SPX until the IPO target is reached. Two paths here to the target: Path 1: Direct run by June end. Path 2: Further correction near term before eventual target by August end.

Recent IPOs Just Had a Historic WeekIf the last 11 months in the market has taught investors anything, it’s that rising interest rates can drag on high-multiple growth stocks. That was especially true for recent initial public offerings, but things might be changing. This chart shows the Renaissance IPO ETF with weekly candles. It has the rate of change indicator set to one-period intervals, making it show simple 1-week changes. Did you know that last week featured the biggest gain since IPO launched in October 2013? In isolation, that’s an interesting bit of trivia. It might get more interesting when you consider a few more points. First, we’re approaching a new quarter and a new half. Big institutional investors often reallocate around these times. Will they return to IPOs after a 54 percent pullback from the 52-week highs? Second, “growth” stocks have tried to pull ahead of “value” for the first time since last July. Check out this daily chart comparing the iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF against the iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF: Third, the shift away from growth mostly resulted from higher oil prices, higher inflation and higher interest rates. But those trends may have also stalled after energy stocks tanked and the 10-year Treasury yield failed to hold an 11-year high. Overall, the Fed’s hiking cycle isn’t done and inflation remains a problem. But last week the market showed signs of looking past those challenges – at least for now. The dust settles on the IPO bubbleTaking the chart of the IPO ETF over the SPX, we can see that the IPO stocks had an incredible bubble in 2020, allowing business owners to go public and dump shares for 10, or even 100 times what they were worth in some cases. At its peak, this bubble had increased IPO by 100% above the already increasing SPX. As it always goes, the bubble popped and now we are in a state of utter dispair. However, there is hope in sight, since the next phase to expect is a return to the mean. This could send IPO stocks once again into the spotlight, if only for awhile. All this to say, it's a good time to hold assets that had a recent IPO, namely Palantir (PLTR).

Renaissance IPO ETFAlong with the popularity of individual IPOs, the Renaissance IPO ETF—trading under the apt “IPO” ticker—has built a hype train of its own. The ETF had $40.5 million in assets under management on December 31, 2019 and ended 2020 with more than $740 million, a whopping 18x increase. Technically, it is in the bullish trend, price is sitting on the support level around 57.50, so we should wait till it breaks the correction line and then buy.
