The fund is passively managed to target the US muni bond space. Its underlying index primarily includes municipal bonds issued by state or local governments or agencies whose interest is federal tax-exempt and AMT-free. Eligible securities must have a rating of at least investment grade as determined by an NRSRO and should be denominated in USD. A minimum par amount of $25 million and a minimum term to maturity of at least one month are also required. To track the index, the fund employs a sampling strategy. The index is weighted by market value and rebalances monthly.
