Pacific Bell is a telecommunications company providing services in the U.S. state of California. The company was a subsidiary of AT&T and was named Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. The company grew with a series of acquisitions and implemented automated switching equipment in 1920s. Through its acquisitions, the company provided services to cities in Oregon, Idaho and Washington. The company was made a separate unit of AT&T in 1984 due to regulations in the U.S. at the time. The company was founded in 1906 and is a now subsidiary of SBC and AT&T Inc.
